In 2018, the approaching Hurricane Florence and a near-empty city allowed me incredible access to the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge and USS Yorktown

Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge

Completed in 2005, the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge has become one of the most recognizable landmarks in Charleston, SC. I wouldn't want to bore you with the history, but I recommend reading about it on your own time (The Story).

On this particular day, the city's residents had evacuated. It was a ghost town, and I was on a mission: take my drone out while the airport was grounded (and security was relaxed). I wouldn't attempt this today as drone laws are much stricter, but in 2018 it was less of a problem.

The following photos were taken only a few hours before Hurricane Florence hit.

USS Yorktown

This ship has a storied past as well (dating back to before WWII) and I would recommend reading the full story (The Story). Like I said, I was probably not supposed to fly so close to the aircraft, but a police officer saw and didn't bother to approach me anyways. So, I think I'm in the clear...
