Morris Island Lighthouse | Folly Beach, SC
A lighthouse almost forgotten to time

A History Lesson
Dating back to the 1700s, the Morris Island Lighthouse has been a landmark for the Folly Beach community and surrounding area ever since. For many years, it was privately owned and in neglect. In 1996, a local organization attempting to save this iconic lighthouse was formed: Save the Light. Their mission to transfer ownership to the State of South Carolina was realized in 1999, but their efforts to raise money to save it are still ongoing. You can learn more on their history page here.
From the Sky
Within weeks of buying my drone in 2018, I set my eyes on the lighthouse. I used to visit Folly Beach occasionally and always took the time to reach the end of the beach to see the lighthouse out in the water. Laws on drones were much more relaxed back then and I was able to fly my drone out to the lighthouse to take these dramatic pictures at dusk.

From the Beach
Once I bought myself a DSLR camera, I went back a few times to capture the view of the lighthouse from the beach. The perspective from the beach shows you how far the lighthouse is from any meaningful land. It really shows how much the ocean can claim over the years.
